Tegan Quin Sara Quin Tegan and Sara played a very cool set at Denver's Twist and Shout record store on Sept. 13, 2010. I managed to take a few photographs while peeking through all the people, record racks, amps and microphone stands. They played later that night with Paramore at Red Rocks. In the early 1980s I received a plastic 35mm camera as a promotional gift for subscribing to Time magazine. The camera was made by a company called Lavec in Taiwan. It came with a strap, lens cap and case. Unlike the Holga and Diana cameras, the Lavec doesn't seem to have much of a following. But I enjoyed playing around with it. These wooden tops were made by Alan Gray, a mechanical engineer, who enjoys making toys that balance. The package they came in arrived on a sunny spring day. When I opened the box the sunlight from outside my front door and window made a nice glow on the red tissue paper and the colored top. So I took a picture.The top maker's website is at: Wood Tops

In October 2008 I went to a rally on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder to hear Michelle Obama speak. Although I was buried in the crowd I was able to take some photographs of her with my Nikon D80 and a 70-300mm zoom lens. A skate girl next to me let me stand on her skateboard for a few shots. She had to steady me because skateboards aren't really designed for this sort of thing. Later

Instax is instant film like Polaroid used to make. I recently bought a Fujifilm Instax 200 camera. It's a large plastic camera about 7" long and 5" high. It has three exposure settings (lighten, normal and darken) and two lens settings (0.9 to 3 meters and 3 meters to infinity). I'm having fun playing around with it. When taking pictures I usually try to get the shot I want without thinking about later adjustments or cropping. In the digital world we live in it's easy to take a photograph and possibly improve on it with Photoshop and other programs. But I live in the natural world too and I prefer to just leave things alone. Of course my Nikon D80 is a digital thing, but really all it does it capture light on

Tegan and Sara played at Belly Up Aspen in Colorado on April 30, 2008. It was off-season in Aspen, the period between the end of the ski season and summer, so the town was quiet. In 1986 I photographed one of my favorite bands, Wednesday Week, at a place called the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California, which is on the coast between Los Angeles and San Diego. Today I went to Civic Center Park in downtown Denver where the American Friends Service Committee had their Eyes Wide Open exhibit about the human cost of the Iraq War. It's a very moving experience. Shoes and boots are used to symbolize the lost lives of Iraqis and U.S. soldiers. You can see more photographs at: Fields of Peace.

Today I drove up to Mt. Lindo, which is a cremation garden and cemetery near Morrison overlooking Turkey Creek Canyon. The east side of the mountain has the famous lighted cross that can be seen from Denver. It was a gray day with occasional rain. I wanted to see how close in I could get so I tried this close-up shot. The camera has an equivalent 28mm-102mm lens so you can get pretty decent close-ups. The camera has a macro, but I didn't use it to get this shot. Here's one where I was trying to get a gray against gray look...

This is the first photograph I took at Fairmount and one of the first I took with the new camera. It drizzled on the way over to the cemetery, but the rain stopped by the time I got there. The sky was just the right gray for the kind of light I like when taking pictures in cemeteries. Here are two more pictures...
